Hannah Ustun's Top Tips For Art at University
1. Take as much equipment with you as possible - you will need it at some point. Key tools: staple gun, overalls, padlock, big ruler, no such thing as too much paint or too many paint brushes, masking tape, glue.
2. Ideally know what you want to do before you go there.
3. Artist knowledge / influences are pretty crucial.
4. Be prepared to be surrounded by others that challenge / intimidate you.
5. Make work that you want to make - not what you think your tutors / others want you to make. In the end you get more respect for that and it's more gratifying.
6. Take advantage of the first year - trying different things etc.
7. Make friends with the right people.
8. Go to gallery openings and exhibitions.
